Why Regular Air Conditioning Maintenance Is Important

The summer is here, which means higher temperatures outside and high humidity. More than ever, people are now using air conditioning in their homes to stay cool and comfortable. That’s why air conditioning maintenance is essential.

If your air conditioning system is not working correctly, you may experience more than just discomfort. Ignoring maintenance can lead to costly repairs or replacement. Keep your air conditioner in good shape to avoid this scenario. This summer, you should make it a point to have your A/C checked and maintained.

Regular Air Conditioning Maintenance

Protect Important Equipment

Air conditioners can be costly to replace, especially when you have to do it every few years. Maintaining your equipment will extend its life. HVAC experts say that regular maintenance could have prevented many A/C system replacements.

Scheduled air conditioning maintenance in Knoxville TN also reduces the likelihood of costly and unexpected repairs. Emergency service is also reduced. A qualified and skilled technician will inform you if your unit needs to be serviced or requires repairs and replacement parts. You can avoid damage and an emergency call by doing this.

Air conditioners are also less stressed when they receive regular maintenance. Filters and ducts that are dirty or clogged make A/C units work harder. The motor and cooling unit are put under more stress, which can lead to a breakdown.

The Energy Savings Add up

air-conditioning-maintenance-2-300x200.jpgAir conditioners work at their best when they are maintained regularly. This important piece of equipment can save energy. Cleaning the blades, cooling coils and other components is part of a regular “checkup” for your A/C. It maximizes the energy efficiency and saves money on your utility bills.

During your air conditioner tune-up, numerous vital checkpoints will be carried out, including duct cleaning, monitoring or replacement of coolant, comprehensive examination of equipment and seals, verification of thermostat functionality, and other essential tasks.

You can extend the life of your air conditioner by changing the filter every month or two. You may have to replace the air filter each month during periods of high usage (such as summer). Home improvement stores sell filters, and the installation is easy.

Our friendly staff will be happy to help you if you have any questions about when and how to change your filter. We can also help with air conditioning repairs.

Comfort and peace of mind are offered

Families spend most of their time at home, outside, school, and work. Air quality is a major concern.

Dirt and debris can accumulate around an air conditioner when it is in disrepair. This can have a negative effect on indoor air quality over time. Clogged filters allow airborne contaminants to pass, which can cause allergies and breathing problems. Why put your loved ones and guests at risk?

Best Summer HVAC Tips For Homeowners

The summer is coming, and that means it’s time to get ready for outdoor fun. This time, you should also prepare your HVAC system for the new season.

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. It is the climate control system and ventilation in your home. Maintaining your HVAC system is important to prevent breakdowns, regardless of what type you have. A well-maintained HVAC system will run at its best.

Regular maintenance can also help you save money by lowering your energy bills. JC’s Heating and Air can provide you with a tune-up for your HVAC system during the spring. Professional Services is ready to inspect your HVAC system and make sure it’s prepared for summer.

HVAC Maintenance Tips

Check your filters

Checking the air filter is one of the most important summer HVAC maintenance tips. The filter is used to collect dust, dirt and other particles from the air as your HVAC system operates. Over time, as more particles are passed through, they stick together and create a buildup.

The air will force these particles into your HVAC system when the filter is clogged with dirt and dust. The indoor air quality will be affected. As a result, your unit’s capacity to cool efficiently and effectively will also deteriorate. Eventually, this strain may damage the machine.

Check your AC air filter before turning it on in the spring. You should ensure you buy the right size air filter. Note the dimensions of your filter, and decide the level of filtration that you require.

HVAC systems have varying requirements, including the frequency of filter replacement. Some systems require only a filter change every year, while others may need it every six months. It is important to clean your air filters at least every 30 days in the summer. This will ensure that your system keeps your home cool.

Cleaning reusable filters is necessary to maintain them at their best. They should be cleaned once a year. If you have allergies or pets, you may need to clean your filters more often.

Check Your Ducts & Vents

Checking vents and ducts is also a good idea in the spring. Air circulating in your home is significantly lowered by dirty vents and air ducts. Any clog in the system will reduce its efficiency.

Check the vents in your home. Clean the exterior and interior surfaces, removing any dirt, hair or dust accumulation. After cleaning, open all vents to allow air to flow freely.

While air filters can keep dust and dirt from entering the ductwork to a large extent, it is important that they are checked by a professional before the summer. Professional HVAC technicians use state-of-the-art equipment to clean your entire system. While you may be able to reach a small distance with a vacuum cleaner, they can clean the whole system. The technicians will clean your ductwork and remove all dirt and dust.

A professional duct cleaning will also reveal any leaks or damage in the ductwork. A thorough inspection can also identify weak points that will require future professional repairs.

Cleaning Outdoor Areas

Every spring, you should also clean and inspect the exterior of your AC unit that sits outside. The unit may not function properly after the winter because of old leaves, branches and other debris.

Remove all debris on your AC condenser and the area around it. Keep a minimum 2-foot clearance around the HVAC unit. Cleaning the area around the condenser regularly will help prevent dust from entering the unit, causing HVAC problems.

Increase Your Cooling Power

You should also consider ways to increase the cooling power of your HVAC system throughout the home when discussing summer HVAC tips. Your AC unit’s efficiency can be reduced if you run it constantly. It could also cause damage.

HVAC-2-300x180.jpgYour Thermostat needs to be tuned up

Installing a programmable temperature control can improve the efficiency of your AC. You can control the temperature in your home more easily with a programmable thermostat. Smart thermostats allow you to control the thermostat using your smartphone.

A programmable thermostat can be set to a specific temperature for the day or night. By maintaining higher temperatures while you are away, a programmable thermostat can save you money. Have your thermostat checked by an HVAC contractor in the spring.

Add Energy Efficient Accessories

You can also boost your cooling by using energy-efficient products. You can, for example, invest in energy-efficient window treatments to reduce indoor temperatures and block the sun’s warmth. The HVAC system will not have to work as hard in order to maintain the cool air.

Ceiling and standing fans can also circulate air to improve airflow in your home. Standing fans can be positioned to blow cool air at you, promoting circulation. Ceiling fans should be set to rotate clockwise in order to circulate cool air and direct it downward.

Common Air Conditioning Problems In Homes (And How To Fix Them)

You want to do the best job you can with your air conditioning system. Doing your best to avoid the most common problems with air conditioners is essential. No matter how cautious you are, AC problems in the home can still happen. It is important to diagnose and fix home AC issues as quickly as possible. This will prevent a cascade of other more expensive problems.

This summary outlines the most common AC problems in the home and provides tips on how to resolve them before you call an air conditioning contractor.

Diagnose and fix common home air conditioning problems:

Even new systems can have problems if they’re not installed or maintained correctly. If you are diagnosing AC problems in your home, keep an eye on these warning signs.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #1: Air conditioners that run constantly

Problem: Your AC runs constantly and cannot reach the temperature that you set. This can lead to an uncomfortable home temperature throughout the day, especially during summer. It also increases your energy bill.

There are many reasons why your AC unit may run continuously. You may have dirty air filters that make your system work harder in order to reach the desired temperature. Or you may have a leaky coolant which reduces the unit’s cooling ability.

How to check: Set your thermostat 1 to 2 degrees below the current temperature and time how long your AC unit takes to shut off. It should usually shut down in a few hours. Your AC unit will run continuously if it does not shut off correctly.

Fixing the AC problem at home can be as easy as changing your air filter, cleaning out the exterior air box and setting the right temperature during the day. If none of these solutions seems to help, you might want to call an HVAC professional who can run a diagnostic to check for leaks and replace any parts that need to be replaced.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #2 – AC Unit Doesn’t Turn On

The AC unit will not turn on even after changing thermostat settings or turning on the thermostat.

Possible causes: A circuit breaker could be tripping. A thermostat that is not communicating with the AC could also be the problem.

How to check: Reset the circuit breakers. The thermostat may be to blame if the AC won’t start.

Fixing this AC Problem at Home: If the problem was with the circuit breaker, the problem could be resolved. You may need a licensed electrical contractor to check the wiring and circuit breaker to ensure it is not overloaded. You can install a new thermostat or ask an HVAC technician to look at the unit if the thermostat appears to be the issue.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #3: Air is flowing but it doesn’t seem “conditioned”

The Problem: If the AC unit just cycles air through the vents but it’s not hot or cold, then the unit doesn’t appear to be “conditioned.”

This could happen for a number of reasons. This can be caused by a dirty coil or a smaller HVAC system.

How to check: Check when the problem occurs. If it happens in summer, during the daytime, the AC may not be able to compensate for the high temperatures outside. If the problem persists throughout the day, the issue could be mechanical or maintenance related.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem. The system may not be able to handle the heat if it occurs at the hottest time of the day. This issue may require that you replace your existing system with one that has variable speeds. If you do not want to completely replace your HVAC system, weatherize the house to reduce the work that it has to perform. The HVAC system should be checked if the problem persists throughout the day. This will help determine the best solution.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #4: AC Blowing Hot Air

Problem: AC blows out air, but it is hot air.

The first thing that comes to your mind is a refrigerant leak. There are a number of possible reasons why this could be happening. Dirty air filters can lead to a dirty evaporator and condenser coils on the outdoor unit.

Check the thermostat first to see if it has been accidentally set on heat. Inspect the air filter if that’s not the issue. If the air filter is dirty, you should also check the evaporator. Check the outdoor unit to see if the air filter appears clean to determine if there is adequate airflow.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem: You may only need to give it a good cleaning. The problem could be resolved by replacing the air filter, cleaning the dirty evaporator, and clearing the debris in the unit and the vegetation surrounding it. If none of these things works, you may need to hire a technician to top up the refrigerant.

air-conditioning-2-300x200.jpgHome Air Conditioning Problem #5: AC Unit Stops and Starts Constantly

Problem: The system has a short cycle, which means it turns on and off continuously for less than 15-minute periods at a given time.

Short cycling can be caused by a number of things. A dirty air filter or even a small leak of refrigerant can cause this. The problem could also be complex, such as the AC being too powerful to work with the electrical wiring. The AC system is either stuck in its startup cycle or the blower motor is being overloaded.

First, you need to check your air filter. Check the thermostat next to ensure it is working correctly. If neither of these seems to be the problem, then it is most likely a leak in the refrigerant.

Replace the thermostat or air filter if they are the cause of the problem. A refrigerant problem will require an HVAC expert to fix it. You can also determine whether your HVAC system is sized appropriately for your home.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #6: AC Unit Trips Circuit Breaker

Problem: When the AC is turned on, a circuit breaker trips.

Circuit breaker tripping can be a good sign, as it helps prevent electrical fires. It’s an indication that either a short-circuit is occurring, the circuit breaker is bad or the refrigerant is not being pumped out.

Check your air filter again. The system can work harder if the air filter is heavily clogged. Condenser coils that are dirty can also contribute to the problem. It’s likely that the issue is not dirty equipment but a mechanical or electric problem. A professional should inspect it.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem. Homeowners are able to replace the air filter and clean their condenser coils. Fixes to the wiring and circuit breaker system are best left to a licensed electrician. HVAC contractors are needed to fix refrigerant problems.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #7: Central Air Smells Bad or Off

Problem: The air coming out of the air conditioner is stale or smells off in some way.

There are several causes of foul-smelling air. Common causes include drainage issues leading to standing water, fluid leaks that cause fumes, a short-circuiting fan motor, dead animals trapped in air ducts and mildew in the AC system.

The smell is often the best indicator of the problem. The smell of rotten eggs suggests that there is a dead animal. A gas or exhaust smell indicates a fluid spill. The all-too-familiar mildew odour will also give you away.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem When smells are a problem, professional cleaning is often the solution. It may be necessary to find a leak in the system and patch it.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #8: AC Unit Is Causing Water Leaks from Air Vents

Water is leaking from the air vents. Water leaks can damage the air conditioning system and cause serious problems to ceilings, walls and floors.

You may see moisture near your vents due to a variety of reasons. This could be due to inadequate insulation around the ducts, a frozen evaporator, dirty air filters, or refrigerant leaks.

How to Check: It is important to determine where the moisture comes from. Check your air filter first to see if is dirty or wet. Check the insulation of your ducts. When the airflow or air cooling is poor, the humidity in the air will be caused by refrigerant leaking. Check the condensate drainage line and evaporator. If the problem is primarily when the AC is off, the evaporator is most likely to be the culprit. The problem could be in the drain system if the outside condenser drain pan is full.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem: It’s not necessary to replace the air filter or improve the insulation surrounding the ducts to fix the problem. If the problem appears to be in the condensate drainage line, refrigerant or evaporator, then you will need to contact an AC technician.

AC-repair-1-300x197.jpgHome Air Conditioning Problem #9: Water Leaks From AC Condenser Outlet On Exterior of House

It’s important to identify the problem if you notice water coming from the AC condenser pipe outside the home. It’s an issue that should be dealt with immediately as it could indicate serious air conditioner issues and cause damage to your house.

Small amounts of condensation are normal, particularly during hot summer days. If there is a lot of leakage, the most likely cause is a condenser pipe that’s clogged. Another simple issue could be a cracked pan for condensate or a dirty air filter. The AC system may have been installed incorrectly or is not draining correctly.

How to check: First, determine how much water has leaked out. It’s not a good sign if there’s more water than a small pool. The next step is to check the pipes that are leaking water. Leakages of water during operation are normal, but a continuous leak is not.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem. Replace your dirty air filter first. Then, if that fixes the problem, then great! If the problem persists, you will need to call an AC professional who can clear out the clog in the condensate drain line, replace the broken pan or reinstall your equipment.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #10 – Air Box Fan Isn’t Turning On

Problem: The AC airbox fan will not turn on, even though the thermostat indicates that it is running. The first thing you’ll notice is that the AC system may appear to be running, but it doesn’t cool down inside as normal.

Possible causes: The problem usually is a major one when the outside unit stops working. The motor of the outdoor unit could have burned out, or there may be bad capacitors. Or the power supply might not be adequate. There could be an easy reason for the outdoor unit not working. For example, a tripped breaker.

Check the box fan outside and make sure the emergency shutoff switch is not engaged. You may hear the electrical unit running but not feel or see the fan. This will let you know if the AC air box doesn’t work. You’ll hopefully find a blown fuse or circuit breaker on the electrical panel. Try resetting your AC unit if it doesn’t work. If your outdoor unit doesn’t work, something is wrong inside. A technician should check it out.

While you are examining the problem, you can try some of the DIY fixes listed above. When these do not work, a technician will be needed to test the system in order to find the issue. It will be necessary to replace all bad capacitors, contactor problems, and blown-out motors. A licensed electrician may be required to address inadequate power supplies.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #11: Dust Builds Up Quickly on Surface

The issue: You have just swept your house and now you notice a thick layer of dust covering everything.

The most common cause of this problem in a home AC is a dirty filter. It could be that there are leaks in ductwork, allowing dust to circulate throughout the AC system.

Check the Air Filter: As with so many other AC problems that are common in homes, the first step is to check the air filters. You can tell if it’s dirty. If the air filter has been cleaned and yet dust is still settling within a few days, you should check for leaks in the ductwork. If dust is accumulating around the vents, there may be a leak in your ductwork that allows dirt and other debris to enter the HVAC system.

It is easy to fix this problem. The problem should be resolved once you change your air filter. Air contaminants are now captured. Leaky ducts, however, may require the expertise of a professional equipped to inspect the ductwork. You can repair small leaks with HVAC aluminum foil seal tape. For larger leaks, you will need to call a professional.

air-filters-300x200.jpgHome Air Conditioning Problem #12 – Air Blows Coldest in One Room

Problem: Have you noticed that one room is colder than the others? A common AC issue is blowing super cold air into just one room or a portion of your house.

Possible Causes: The problem can be caused by three factors: the way the vents are positioned and set up, leaky or unbalanced air ducts and inadequate insulation.

How to Check: First, check that the registers and vents are open in all rooms. Check the dampers and make sure they are not closed. Inspect the air filter, if necessary. If possible, check the insulation and ductwork to make sure they are in good condition and adequate.

How to Fix this Home AC Problem. The key to solving this problem is to balance out the airflow so that it circulates evenly throughout your home. HVAC balancing, also called zoning, is the process that involves a thorough assessment of how vents are positioned and how air moves in the home. HVAC zoning is the division of an air conditioning system into zones. This is an excellent idea for homes that have multiple levels and large square footage. You can balance the airflow by adjusting the dampers on the ductwork. You can also open and close the registers to alter how air enters each room. You may need to add insulation and fix the ductwork in some areas of your home if the inspection is successful.

Home Air Conditioning Problem #13 – Air Blown Smells As If It’s Burning

Problem: If the air coming from the vents has a burnt smell, then something is wrong. You may notice that the air is warmer than normal.

The most likely cause is that dust and debris have built up inside the AC unit and this is causing it to turn on the heater instead of the AC. The dust could be burning off. A dirty air filter is also a possible cause. Another possible cause is an overheated motor. Burning electrical components, though rare, could also be the culprit.

How to Check: You’ll need to check your air filter again to determine if you should replace it. If the air filters look good, it is likely that the motor or electrical component has failed. These issues need to be inspected by an HVAC contractor in Knoxville TN.

How to Fix this Home Air Conditioning. A homeowner can change the air filter easily, but other issues require a professional to address. It may be necessary to replace one component, such as a capacitor, or even the entire motor.

Air Conditioning Problem #14 – Increased monthly energy bill

Checking your bank account, you notice that the utility bill has increased significantly. This is not a problem with the HVAC system but it does indicate that it’s time for you to diagnose home AC issues. If your energy bill increases but you haven’t seen any change in usage, this could be a sign that something is wrong.

If your energy bill suddenly spikes, there are many possible causes. There are many possible causes, from a dirty filter to improperly-installed ductwork or low refrigerant. The bottom line is that something could be causing the system to work harder than usual.

How to Check: To check the air filter, you can perform a general HVAC examination yourself. The ENERGY STAR HVAC Maintenance Checklist is a great resource to cover the major components.

Fixing this AC problem at home depends on the cause. The fix could be as easy as changing the air filter or as complicated as installing a brand-new system.

What To Do When Your Air Conditioning Unit Freezes Up

In the heat of summer, it can be surprising to find a piece of ice on your air conditioning system. This is not uncommon. Air conditioning units are self-contained systems that consist of interdependent and interconnected parts. Any one of these components can cause serious problems. This is the main problem with frozen coils.

What can you do if your Air Conditioning unit freezes up?

How does an air conditioning system work?

Many people believe that air conditioners work by introducing cool air to a building. This is not entirely accurate. Air conditioners work by pumping warm air outside of a room, much like a fridge. A fridge only cools a small area that is insulated, while an air conditioner is responsible for cooling a larger space.

They come in many different sizes and shapes, but all of them work the same way. These systems contain chemicals that quickly change from liquid to gas. The chemicals are enclosed in coils that travel through a closed-loop system. Three stations are located along the route to control the temperature, pressure, and state of the refrigerant. The evaporator, the compressor, and the condenser are these stations.

Station 1: The evaporator coil absorbs heat

First, the warm air is drawn from the room and blown over the evaporator coil by a vent. The heat is absorbed by the refrigerant and it turns from liquid into gas. The cold air is then blown into the air ducts, which distribute it in the room. The refrigerant is now in a gaseous form and continues to move along the loop system toward the second station, the condenser.

Station 2: Compressor increases the refrigerant temperatures

The cooling fluid travels outside the compressor. It enters the compressor as a low-pressure gas, and leaves as a hot, high-pressure gas, before continuing to the condenser.

As the name suggests, the compressor is responsible for reducing the volume of the gas by pressing it between two solid objects. This also increases the temperature of the gas.

Station 3: Heat transfer outside

When the refrigerant reaches the condenser and is exposed to cool air, it becomes a hot vapor. You’ll see metal fins around the AC unit’s housing if you have ever looked inside. These fins are designed to help dissipate the heat faster. The refrigerant will be significantly cooler after it leaves the condenser as a result. The high pressure has caused it to change from a liquid to a gas. Now that the refrigerant has changed back to a cool, liquid state, it is ready to return to Station 1 and repeat this process.

What causes an AC unit to freeze?

When there is a malfunction that causes the evaporator to overcool, the refrigerant will freeze. Frozen ac coils are a sign that your AC is not in good health.

You should know what can cause your AC to freeze so that you can fix the problem. AC freezing can be caused by two different things:

Airflow blocked

A constant flow of air is needed to keep the coils from freezing and causing condensation. Filters that are dirty or clogged can disrupt airflow and cause your system to freeze. It’s crucial to replace your filters once to three times a year.

Mechanical problems or leakage of refrigerant

Air conditioners are machines with many moving parts. They can stop working or become stuck. Filters can clog, fans can stop, and leaks may occur. The refrigerant will expand too much if any of these disruptions cause a decrease in pressure. The same thing would happen if a leak caused low refrigerant.

How to prevent your AC from freezing

It can be alarming to see your air conditioner covered in ice. This can be prevented by performing regular maintenance.

Service your unit at least every 12 months. You can even serve it twice a year, depending on the frequency of use. If you want your air conditioner to work efficiently for many years, it needs regular maintenance.

Regular maintenance ensures that your system operates at its maximum capacity and provides faster cooling. This reduces the load on your AC, as minor problems can be detected and corrected early. Scheduled checkups also reduce the risk of unexpected repairs. A qualified HVAC contractor in Knoxville TN, for example, is trained to look for leaks of refrigerant. Frozen ac coils are often caused by low levels of refrigerant.

As a homeowner, you can do some things to extend the life expectancy of your air conditioner. Even something as simple as changing your system air filters each month can save you thousands in repair costs. It will also prevent your system from freezing when you are most in need.

air-conditioning-2-300x200.jpgWhat to do if your AC freezes up

You may have a larger problem if you leave your AC unit frozen for a long time. Sometimes the problem can be resolved with some troubleshooting. You’ll have to contact a qualified HVAC technician if the problem persists.

How to solve this problem?

Step 1: Thaw

Turn off the AC and let it melt. Do not operate the system until it has completely defrosted and dried. Avoid using your air conditioner when it is frozen. This could put undue strain on the compressor.

Note: Your AC’s compressor is its most expensive component. This valuable component could be damaged by excessive strain, resulting in a costly service call or replacement. Don’t break the ice to make it thaw quicker – this could cause damage to multiple parts. Allow your AC system to thaw out and dry.

You may only need to let the system defrost and dry in some cases to get it back to normal. Turn on the blower and restore power to your system.

Step 2: Fix the cause

Your air conditioner in Knoxville TN could freeze for several reasons:

Replace air filters after checking them

Clean air filters are essential for a healthy home. To maintain optimal performance, they need to be changed or cleaned periodically. You should clean your AC filters at least twice a week during peak seasons and replace them every three months.

Check your thermostat and fan settings

Your AC may not be able to transfer heat effectively from the interior to the exterior if the temperature is set too low. Low fan speeds can also cause your AC to be overworked, causing it to have difficulty maintaining the temperature set. On hotter days, increase the fan speed to maintain airflow.

Run AC during cold nights

Your AC can freeze on cool summer nights, as it is designed to work within certain temperature thresholds. The refrigerant will freeze any moisture in the air if the temperature is below the threshold.

Bad compressor

This is the worst-case scenario. The AC coils can freeze if the compressor is worn out. A bad compressor is not something you can fix. You can contact your HVAC provider in an emergency.

You can fix some air conditioning issues yourself. The more complex problems require an HVAC technician to inspect them.

What You Need To Know About Spring Maintenance For Your HVAC System

Spring is the best time to deep clean your home. It’s also a good time to maintain your HVAC system.

Spring maintenance on your HVAC system will help to keep your home cleaner and ensure that your system runs efficiently. A system that is running efficiently can save you money on your energy bills and prevent costly HVAC repairs. This will extend the life of your equipment.

Follow these spring HVAC cleaning tips for homeowners.

Replace your air filter

Two reasons make this the most important tip for every homeowner. This is a simple task that can have a significant impact on your HVAC system’s health. Clean air filters can help you save energy in your home. This will improve your home’s air quality by capturing airborne particles such as dust and allergens. It is important to do this if you reside in an area where pollen levels are high.

You should change your disposable filter monthly. If you use a washable one, you must clean and wash the filter every month.

Check your Ductwork

The ductwork in your home is an integral part of the HVAC system. Be sure to seal any joints or holes that are leaking. If there are cracks in your ductwork, you should make sure to fix them.

Drainage Hole

A drainage hole is usually located in the base of an air conditioner’s cabinet. This hole must be kept clean for your HVAC unit to function properly. A drainage hole that is not kept clean can become blocked and stop your unit from draining. It will increase the stress on your unit, and reduce its efficiency. Clogs can also occur at the P trap, which is located not far from the drain hole. Be sure to also clear the P-trap.

HVAC-2-300x196.jpgKeep your windows and doors closed

It’s best to close windows and doors if you or other members of your family suffer from allergies or asthma. This will prevent allergens from getting in. It’s best to close windows and doors in the summer to prevent allergens from entering, but also to keep hot and humid air outside. Allowing in too much hot air can strain your heating and cooling system, reduce its efficiency, and increase costs.

Remove any obstructions around the outside part of the system

It is vital to regularly check on your outdoor unit because it is exposed to the elements. Regularly check the unit to ensure it is free of debris or loose plants. Also, make sure that no vegetation grows within two feet of the unit. It is important that your air conditioner can pull the air needed to regulate the temperature of your home.

Installing a Programmable Thermostat

Install a programmable thermometer if you don’t have one. This will not only give you more control over the temperature of your home but may also lower your energy bills as you can set it to run less when you aren’t home.

This spring, if you don’t have a thermostat that can be programmed, is the perfect time to install one. It is important to update the schedule and adjust your thermostat’s settings if you have one. Check to see if all vents have been opened.

Test Your Air Conditioner

It’s a great idea to run your air conditioning system for a few minutes before the summer heat arrives. It is an easy way to determine if your unit has any issues and you can schedule a service before summer.

Book an appointment for routine maintenance

After you have completed the above tasks, it is time to call in the professionals. It’s important to have a professional service for your HVAC system, even if you clean and change your air filters regularly, keep the outside unit cleaned, and adjust your programmable temperature. The technician will have the ability to examine your system in greater detail, including checking all connections and taking measurements of the electrical amp draw. They can also check the pressure of the refrigerant. An HVAC contractor with the right qualifications will be able to identify any potential future issues.

Upgrade Your System

Installing a new system of air conditioning in the spring is another great idea. You will save money on heating and cooling costs if you replace your old system with a more efficient one. This is best done in the spring rather than during the summer when you will be uncomfortable in your home without air conditioning. Contractors are also very busy and it may take weeks for the unit to be installed.

Spring cleaning includes more than just cleaning your house and yard. Call J.C.’s Heating and Air to schedule maintenance or service.

Benefits of Clean Air Ducts

The air ducts in your home play an important role. Air ducts circulate the air from heating and cooling systems throughout the home, ensuring comfort all year round. The air ducts can accumulate mold, dust, pollen and other debris if they are neglected. The HVAC system circulates the pollutants once you turn it on. This can affect the comfort in your home and the health of your family members. To prevent the accumulation of pollutants, you should clean your ductwork frequently.

Cleaning your ducts regularly has these benefits

1. You will improve indoor air quality

The air that circulates through your ducts is the same air your family breathes. Indoor air is contaminated with contaminants such as pet dander, debris and dust, volatile chemicals like carbon monoxide and pesticides. These pollutants are pulled into the HVAC system. These pollutants can accumulate in the ductwork over time and then enter your home. These contaminants can cause respiratory problems such as coughing, sneezing and bronchial congestion every time they are inhaled. By cleaning the ductwork regularly, you improve the indoor air quality and eliminate harmful particles in the air . This will protect your family’s health.

2. Cleaning the ducts will increase your HVAC unit’s efficiency.

Airflow is impeded when dust and other debris reach a certain point in the ductwork. It will lead to an inefficient flow, resulting in cold or hot spots throughout your home. The HVAC unit has to work harder in order to circulate enough warm or cold air. This will result in a higher energy bill. After you remove the debris, the air will flow freely and allow the HVAC system perform at its peak efficiency, saving you money.

3. It eliminates awful odors

The ductwork can become clogged with stale smells that spread throughout the house. Mold and bacteria can grow in ducts, causing a foul smell. Rodents, shrews and other animals can get into the ductwork if they are neglected. They will leave some droppings behind. Other rodents get trapped and die. They decompose releasing a foul smell. These smells persist even after using air fresheners or opening windows. Cleaning the ducts will help eliminate dead animals and contaminants. It also discourages insects because they won’t be able to hide in the clean ducts. Your house will smell fresher.

4. You will maintain a cleaner environment

Dust particles can accumulate in your HVAC system’s ductwork when you turn it off for a couple of hours. The particles will circulate in your home once you have turned on the HVAC unit. The particles settle on bedding, furniture, floors, and other items. To keep your house clean and hygienic, you will need to dust all surfaces frequently. Check the ducts if you notice your home is dusty. You can prevent contaminants from entering your home repeatedly by cleaning the ductwork.

5. Eliminates irritants

Some harmful microorganisms can also be found in air ducts. Recirculation of airborne pollutants can be harmful to your health if you have children, or if you live with elderly people or those with compromised immune systems. Pet dander, animal hair, mold spores and pollen can cause allergic reactions and asthma attacks when they enter your home. Periodic air duct cleanings will prevent allergens from spreading throughout your home and create healthier living conditions. A cleaner air is also easier to breathe. It will also reduce the amount of discomfort, as well as medical costs and sick days.

6. It keeps your home safe

When they heat up, these materials could ignite and cause fires. It can cause massive damage to your valuable property, and even put the lives of those you love at risk. This risk is higher if your HVAC unit is old or you use propane to power your stove, fireplace or furnace. You should therefore conduct regular duct-cleaning to keep your home safe and reduce fire hazards.

7. Cleaning Ducts increases the lifespan of the HVAC system

Your unit will work harder to maintain comfortable conditions in your home if the ductwork is dirty. This causes the system to be overworked and wear out, leading to frustrating breakdowns during the summer. You will need to call for repairs more frequently than normal. You will eventually cause the HVAC system to fail if you continue using the unit. The entire unit will have to be replaced sooner than you expected. Regular air duct cleaning will extend the life of your HVAC system.

8. Air Filters last longer

The air filters capture dirt and other contaminants in the air you breathe. The air filters can become clogged more quickly if there is too many dust particles in the ductwork. This will require you to replace or clean them more frequently. It can be a tedious task, but it is important to clean your ducts frequently in order to remove contaminants and extend the life of your filters.

9. Technicians Can See Other Problems During Duct Cleansing

The technician will also check the entire HVAC system for any other problems. The technician will check the ducts to see if there are any leaks, rust or gaps. When necessary, the technician will insulate your ductwork to increase the efficiency of the unit. Professionals can identify and repair any issues with your HVAC system you may not have noticed. They will clean or change the air filters and lubricate all parts. Repairing minor problems will prevent further damage.
